Girl with a Mandolin

girl with mandoline32″ x 40″, Acrylic on paper, 2006

This is a reproduction of Picasso`s “Girl with Mandolin”. In this piece I was learning about cubism and space, I learned that I didn`t have to cover the whole canvas with cubes, but I could leave some spaces wide open. I also learned that my cubes didn`t have to be all small, that cubism pictures can be painted with larger cubes as well. when I painted this I was also experimenting with color, applying different colors to get a wide variety of different greys. – Riel Benn (click on image to view larger version)
