This is a portrait of the Blackfoot Chief named “Buffalo Bull’s Back Fat” on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. This magazine series began in 1998 – 1999. The reason why I created the “Magazine Series” was because growing up I never saw native people on magazine covers. So I made my own. I was 19 when I painted this piece. The background was inspired by the movie titled “The Jackal” but it’s also a representation of native war veterans. Giving them coverage because native war veterans were completely forgotten when they came back from world war 2. – Riel Benn
